LRI? What does it all mean?

For those utilizing Virginia Waiver services, there are some changes coming (insert groans here).

In summary, if you are using attendant care services (and you are either the paid spouse or parent aide) this would apply to you. During Virginia public health emergency (ending 11/10/23) Medicaid allowed for parents and spouses to be paid aides (that was not an option prior to COVID). However, VA Medicaid is allowing for this to be a permanent option, but with restrictions:

• EOR (Employer of Record) can not be another LRI (Legally Responsible Individual – other parent or step-parent OR spouse).
• EOR assigned must live within 50 miles of the individual receiving services
• Several forms must be filled out to show need for an LRI to be the paid aide
• Service facilitation must be used
